How To Use Offshore Recruiters

Author: Derek Hayes

In my experience, internal recruiting departments have to cope with many statistics measured on process adherence and service delivery to internal customers. RPO's and 3rd parties are constantly seeking both new technologies and techniques to drive greater efficiency.

While corporate recruiting plays a vital role in traditional lower level, support oriented and re-occurring type roles, it is in the best interest of the corporation to employ an external service provider who has access to the latest technologies and is also skilled at using them, for the other roles. A corporation biggest challenge in recruiting is always managing the internal recruitment process for the higher level, hard-to-find passive candidates for vital roles. With the exception of a few, the way corporations source candidates needs to be refined. Technologies if used appropriately can improve the efficiency of the recruiting process resulting in time and money saved.

Everyone knows (though some may deny it) that whether a corporation employs its own internal recruiters or utilizes the services of staffing agencies, (at the expense of large commissions or placement fees) they do not obtain expected results compared to the price paid. Utilizing offshore recruiters who are efficient and affordable has proven to dramatically increase return on investment – as many corporations and major staffing firms themselves have experienced.

Some of the cost effectiveness of using an offshore recruiter comes from the savings in commissions, payroll costs, medical and dental insurance, administrative costs, infrastructure and paid vacation. Obviously, the right offshore team will have the required expertise, extensive database of resumes and technology at its disposal, along with the skill to derive the maximum from their resources.

Recruiting aspects that are of strategic importance, like final interviewing and selecting top candidates, should be retained. However, it would make more corporate sense if those that are not of strategic importance to the company, like applicant tracking, sourcing and screening are off shored.

I do not say that corporate recruiters lack talent or commitment to their work, but wouldn't it be better in the corporation's interest to entrust the same work to an off shore team that has the same capabilities, at a much lower price?
